You never know what you'll find in Aunt Mysti's junk drawer.
Today started like any other day at Foundation Elementary School. Everything was fine until I ran into the biggest bully in the fourth grade. After that, nothing seemed to go right. Then I found a new clicky pen in a kitchen drawer.
When I used the pen to draw a picture for an assignment, strange things began to happen! A dragon came to life, a fleet of alien spaceships appeared, and I got a chance to rewrite the past. This magic pen may be exactly what I need to solve all my problems!

About the series
After publishing several novels for adults, my fourth-grade students kept pestering me to write a book at their level. I wanted to write a book for ALL my students regardless of race or gender, so I wrote a first-person narrative with an anonymous main character. "I" remains unnamed throughout the entire story. This required some creativity, but I enjoyed every minute. I & the Magic Pen (yes, the incorrect grammar is intentional) addresses bullying, natural consequences, responsibility, and empathy in a magical, Groundhog Day format full of second chances. Perfect for 8 to 10 year olds!
I’ve always wanted a pet, but since my parents are deployed and I live with my Aunt Mysti, I’ve had to make do with walking the neighbor’s dog. When a stray cat starts living in our garage, I try to earn its trust. Skittish and easily scared, the cat proves hard to win over.
I take care of the cat as best I can, but with the frisbee golf tournament happening at school this week, I can’t afford to be distracted. My friend Payton and I have been practicing for weeks. We plan to win it all. A magic pair of earbuds from my aunt’s junk drawer gives me a peek into the cat’s mind, and I’m forced to make a choice that could ruin everything.
I never expected a cat would cause me so much trouble.
